What skills are needed to become a Certified Professional Interpreter?
Court Interpreting requires complete fluency in both English and the foreign language, and mastery of the three modes of interpretation: sight, consecutive and simultaneous. The profession requires a high level of language mastery in Spanish and English to handle the widest range of language terms that may be presented in the courts. At least two years of college work is required; it can provide the language foundation and broad knowledge necessary for an interpreting career. In addition, interpreters must be sensitive to the cultures associated with their languages of expertise.
