What skills are companies looking for in an intern?
To qualify for the Supervised Industry Internship program, you need to have studied at the MSP for a minimum of two semesters and have taken a total of five or more classes. Generally, companies expect students to have at least intermediate skills in: HTML Photoshop And one or more of the following: CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) Dreamweaver Flash ImageReady JavaScript Final Cut Pro QuarkXPress InDesign Pre-press Depending upon your focus, you will also want to have some demonstrated skill in the area of design, writing, or programming, as well as some understanding of the production process. There is a résumé workshop available to students (it is a requirement for the Portfolio Development class), and you are strongly urged to take this workshop prior to your search for an internship. Also, the MSP STRONGLY recommends that you have a personal website that showcases your best work. Not having an online portfolio will make finding an internship MUCH more difficult.
