What Size Wire Is Acceptable For Light Fixtures? Tuesday December 15, 2009 If you’ve ever connected a light kit to a ceiling fan or wired a flexible cord to a desk or ceiling light, you’ve probably noticed that the wiring is considerablly smaller in gauge size than the wiring that you are connecting to. This all has to do with the tap rule listed in the National Electrical Code. There are a couple of factors that control the limitations of these flexible cord installations. Ampacity and branch circuit overcurrent devices must be considered upon installation. There are specific articles listed in the National Electrical Code that will address these specific items.
