What size gaps can silicones fill?
Silicone sealants have very good gap filling capabilities in comparison to other types of sealants. The size of gap depends very much on the type of application. Typically silicone sealants are used to seal flanges with gaps exceeding 0.5 mm. The maximum gap that silicones can fill will depend on vibration, clamp loads, temperatures, and other factors, but in engines silicones are rarely used to fill gaps in excess of 5 mm.
