What size baking pan would I substitute for a 9x9x1.5″ cake pan ?
The area of a 9×9 pan is 81 inches. The area of an 8×11 pan is 88 inches. The area of a 9″ round pan = 3.14*(4.5^^2) = about 64 inches. So you’re better off using the 8×11 pan, as it’s much closer to the original area. Since it’s slightly larger, you should reduce the cooking time a bit — maybe check it 5 t0 10 minutes before the recipe says. If you use the 9″ round pan, it may not come out right; you will probably have to cook it for a lot longer.
