What similarities are there between Buddhism and Christianity?
Not much. Buddhism has no conception of the afterlife as religion perceives it. Only the individual consciousness survives and it reincarnates a short time after death. Buddhist also do not worship Buddha. He is not a God, or a savior of any sort. Sidartha Buddha is one of many teachers, and “buddha” just means enlightened one. Anyone can become a “buddha”. Buddhists also do not believe in a God. They are atheistic. Buddhism is about inner peace and attaining an enlightened state so as to be above suffering. Christianity deals with worshiping a God to get into heaven and avoid eternal damnation.
Similarities both involve some sort of person : buddha vs christ both look towards god both look for peace both look into healing both people went to heaven to perform greater good both set out principles which are very similar both lost friends and families both involve some sort of repentance both religions have a purgatory both religions have scriptures at one point or another, both types on monks were bald angels and spirits in heaven who interact with the people on earth demons and devil who messes people up on earth both have religious place of worship both at one point or another involved some sort of sacrifice both have words to end at a prayer – amen vs ‘all-lay-tor-fut’ both involve prayers when god(s) get angry they create havoc on earth both have some sort of mystic stories that stretches thousand of years both at some point or rather involved the desert both christ and buddha was tested on temptation both christ and buddha were subject to a greater power (god/greater god)
