What silly sayings did Davis put on the ticker tape display?
Ones reported on the message board or that I’ve seen include “IT’S RAINING CATS AND DOGS,” “IT’S A GOOD DAY TO FLY A KITE,” and ‘HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT.” There are likely others. If Davis wanted to save memory and battery life, it seems these cutesy messages (which, at best, are amusing ONLY the first time you see them) would be prime candidates for elimination, NOT wind speeds or directions! Update 6/10/2002 – Here is what I believe to be a comprehensive list of the silly sayings on the ticker tape: When the 10 minute wind average is between 25 and 40 mph, you see “HOLD ONTO YOUR HAT” When the 10 minute wind average is between 8 and 18 mph, the wind chill is between 60 and 80 F, it is during daylight hours, and it’s not raining, you see “IT’S A GOOD DAY TO FLY A KITE” When the wind chill is between -30 and -50 F and the 10 minute wind speed is greater than or equal to 10 mph, you see “DANGEROUS WIND CHILL”.
