What side effects are there from prolonged use of nurofen plus painkillers?

Nurofen Plus, like Nurofen, Advil, Parafen etc. are designed for short term use only, e.g. headache, period pain etc. Used occasionally, few if any side effects. Nurofen is completely excreted from your body in less than 24 hours from your last dose and does not accumulate in your system. Ibuprofen acts by suppressing prostoglandins, one of the positive functions of which is to maintain the mucus lining of your stomach which protects the sensitive lining from your digestive acids. If this mucus is thinned too much, your own acids will “burn” a hole in your stomach lining thus causing and ulcer. With proper treatment, no permanent damage will occur. (prostaglandins are a hormone which causes fever,(heat), inflammation and pain and are an essential warning sign to your body- reducing them eases fever, inflammation and of course, pain). Codeine, however, can be addictive, and can cause constipation and in come people, drowsiness.
