What should the thickness of the concrete deck be?

When pouring a new deck where a Durafirm stand is to be installed, first order our bronze deck anchors (see answer to pull-out testing of bronze anchors). Our recommendation is that the concrete be 7″ to 10″ deep where each bronze anchor will be embedded (in an approx. 6″ radius around each anchor), and that reinforcing steel in two directions be close to each bronze anchor. In areas that are more than 10″ away from each bronze anchor, the concrete needs to be only 5″ thick. For existing decks, if you plan to use the Hilti stainless-steel threaded inserts the deck should be good quality concrete at least 6″ thick.
