What should the ordinary user do to prepare for migrating to a routed network?
A. Users should make sure that their computers are correctly registered in the faculty/staff scope. Questions should be directed to your TC. In addition, the TCs are working with the faculty and staff computers to print using a mechanism other than IP address. After a building has been moved to the new network, there will be several tasks to be completed. Users, Technology Consultants, IT Consultants, Network Services and departments will share these tasks: • Restart all printers and servers (‘stay-on’ computers) so that they can ‘reconnect’. • Reactivate all BC-user computers, desktops and laptops. • Verify that all users can access printers, file servers, eMail, and other networked services. • See that links to printers use new ‘logical’ names rather than old IP addresses. • Re-enter certain types of links within applications so that they can function over the new network. These include: backup programs (e.g. Veritas, Retrospect Remote)scheduling programs (e.g. MeetingMaker)remote da
