Calcium is the biggest nemesis. Water of less than 15 grains hardness is preferred. For carbon steel boilers, do not use de-ionized water. Specific resistivity should be less than 100,000 ohms/cm. For stainless steel boilers, you must use de-ionized water of at least I megohm/cm specific resistivity.
