What should runners and athletes eat?
The high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets we see everywhere today are in fact not optimal for anyone training as a runner and athlete. Carbohydrates are vital for the efficient functioning of the body, and they are our most cleanly burning fuel. The key is to know which kinds of carbohydrates are best for you, how much of them you should eat, and when. In addition, the amounts and kinds of protein and fat you take in are also important to keep your body functioning at its best. At Sophros Fitness, I believe that foods in themselves are not bad or evil (I’ve been spotted with a jar of M&Ms on my desk) but that it’s the amount and frequency you eat them that makes the difference.
