What should people with disabilities do in the event of a fire alarm?
If you are disabled (even temporarily), you should make sure that you identify yourself to your Resident Director. It is important that you plan ahead for emergencies, and be aware of your capabilities and limitations. Campus emergency responders are notified of the assignments of students with mobility impairments. While elevators are designed to stop operating when an alarm sounds, interior stairwells are designated safe zones. If you do not feel safe waiting for an emergency responder in your room, move to the closest stairwell and wait for assistance.
