What should patients ask their urologists before deciding on their surgeon?
I encourage patients to read up as much as they can about prostate cancer before choosing their surgeon. It is important to be prepared and think of some questions prior to meeting with their urologists. They should ask their urologist about side effects of surgery, including urinary control and ED. It is rare after robotically-assisted surgery to have prolonged urinary control issues, but sexual function is often a side effect of any prostate cancer treatment out there, even with a prostatectomy. Patients should also follow up on recommended surgeons in their area and ask their urologist for recommendations.
