What should Loomis Chaffee students take from their experience on the Island?
Loomis students should take from their experience here a passion for learning. Whether or not they remember all the content material is not what concerns me. Whether they make mistakes along the way is also not of great concern to me. We all make mistakes – and will continue to do so. But what concerns me is if one doesn’t leave here with a passion and love for something out there in the world. We want to bring out that curiosity students come here with, make students hanker for answers by asking new and probing questions. I hope that students’ curiosity will be driven by a certain passion that we’ve shared with them in the classroom. I tell students that it’s okay to want to challenge themselves, to take on huge feats that have never been done before. Because if they have the passion, they’ll figure out the know-how, and they’ll enjoy what they’re doing and can make a contribution. Why do you teach? I teach because I am a lover of ideas and am stimulated by them quite frankly. What fo
