What should I look for when choosing a violin?

However unhelpful this answer may be, it is probably the best answer anyone can give. A violin is a HIGHLY personal instrument from where a joint cooperation between it and you creates music. What matters most is the sound it makes. I’ve definitely seen instruments that are a little abnormal in certain ways, such as the bridge is a little on the thick side, but produces a beautiful sound. Instead of looking for things, listen! If love the sound that it makes under your chin, or even the feel of it as you are playing, it is definitely a strong candidate for consideration. Most instrument shops allow you to take instruments out for a trial period for a week or two! If no instrument pops out, i would suggest you find the most standard instrument possible, one that does not, in any way, inhibit your playing.
