What should I look for when buying an amplified acoustic bass guitar?
Well, I’m not going to recommend any particular brands or models; but first the obvious: Look at what you look at for any guitar. That is, playability and quality workmanship. Your budget may determine much of you get to look at; but a guitar that’s put together well (in the woodshop sort of way- no messy glue joints, fret end edges are not noticeable as you run your hand up and down the neck, etc.) can be had for a budget price; so inspect it for major flaws or shoddy workmanship first. The tuning keys should not have an excessive amount of “play” as well. Acoustic basses with a 34″ scale (full length) can also have some issues with the neck, neck joint, and angle due to how very long they are. Also, if the intonation isn’t right, it’s quite a bit harder to correct on one due to the non-adjustable bridges. (Still possible, but probobly not something you’d wanna do yourself.)
