Well, I’m not going to recommend any particular brands or models; but first the obvious: Look at what you look at for any guitar. That is, playability and quality workmanship. Your budget may determine much of you get to look at; but a guitar that’s put together well (in the woodshop sort of way- no messy glue joints, fret end edges are not noticeable as you run your hand up and down the neck, etc.) can be had for a budget price; so inspect it for major flaws or shoddy workmanship first. The tuning keys should not have an excessive amount of “play” as well. Acoustic basses with a 34″ scale (full length) can also have some issues with the neck, neck joint, and angle due to how very long they are. Also, if the intonation isn’t right, it’s quite a bit harder to correct on one due to the non-adjustable bridges. (Still possible, but probobly not something you’d wanna do yourself.) So make sure (with an electronic tuner) that the note sounded with an open string is the same one when the harm
