What should I get a golden retriever, German shepherd, or a Labrador retriver?

Golden Retreivers can be more laid back than labs or german shepherds. I don’t know much about labs except they are balls of flying endless energy. Goldens were listed #2 on this list of the estimated popular dog breeds in 2009. http://dog-breeds.suite101.com/article.c…

For me personally it would be a Golden without a doubt, but it all depends on what you want in dog. You should research each breed and then consider which you want. Remember a dog is a big decision and you need to make sure you really want a pet. And, you need to be happy with the breed you choose.

German shepard is great but you will run into many areas that consider them a dangerous dog due to the breed by reputation only. Any animal can be dangerous. Most times this is due to bad owners poor training and or abuse. I raise labs and if you are only wanting a pet I suggest going to a shelter or aspca get one who is sweet well adjusted and you will know because you will just click together. Much is to be gained by an older puppy or young adult. They are more settled and you already will know their personality. Golden retrievers are generally the most loyal and easy to train. Labs are fun and energetic and stay puppy in attitude until they are two years old! Check your homeowners insurance to see if any of them will affect your premium (the german shepard could raise your homeowners insurance). Some cities consider them in the same category as a pit bull. I think it is the owner as I said before not the breed but you need to know what your town thinks about it.

The one that fits your lifestyle best. A GSD is very different that the retrievers, so it makes me concerned about what you’ve narrowed it down to. I recommend going to http://www.petfinder.com and finding the dog that matches you best.

Getting a puppy is always so exciting! I would definitely say German Shepherd. Hopefully you’ve done your research though! GSDs are not dogs for first time owners. Are you buying from a breeder? If you are and you haven’t picked one yet I would be happy to help you find the right one! I know GSD breeders all over the U.S. (If you decide to get a German Shepherd of coarse). My e-mail address is on my profile – I would be happy to give you my recommendations!
