You may have an Xbox Live compatible router, but Microsoft may have only approved a certain firmware version for the specific product. You should check at the Xbox Live router compatibility page and select your manufacturer, view the firmware that is Xbox Live compatible, connect to your router and view it’s current firmware version, if it is not the approved firmware version (even if your current version is more up to date) you will need to go to your manufacturer’s website, download the firmware and then upgrade/downgrade your router’s firmware.
