What should I discuss with my doctor before using MetroGel (metronidazole topical)?
Do not use metronidazole topical if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Before using metronidazole topical, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have a blood cell disorder such as anemia or decreased white blood cells. If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use metronidazole topical. FDA pregnancy category B. This medication is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Metronidazole passes into breast milk and could harm a nursing infant. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
