What should I be mindful of when working a repeater via Echolink?

• Repeaters have timers which means you should not be long winded. The KH6JPL-R repeater has a timeout of 2.5 minutes. If you hold your transmit on beyond 2.5 minutes the repeater will drop and reset when you have finally gone back into receive mode. • There may be many repeaters connected in a network so allow ample time for all repeaters to reset during a change over (switching from one caller to another). • If the repeater has conferencing – avoid tying up a repeater when chatting to another ham who have also landed at that node. It would be best to disconnect the repeater and call the other ham directly. • Hams on the mobile may not be able to tell if another Ham joins you on the repeater connection because they cannot see the Echolink screen. If you are on a PC be aware of additional connections to the call and allow for these callers to break in.
