What should happen if a governor does not attend meetings?
A governor who does not play an active part on the governing body increases the workload on the remainder of the governors. A governor regularly sends apologies to full governing body meetings Whilst any governor can submit their apologies to the clerk of governors, it is the governing body’s decision whether the apology is sanctioned. In most cases where there is a genuine reason, the governing body must consider each on merit. If apologies are accepted, the rules about non-attendance are not applicable but if the apology is not accepted, the governor is automatically disqualified from being a governor if he/she does not attend governing body meetings for a continuous period of six months from the date of the first non-attendance. A governor that does not send apologies If governors fail to submit apologies, then their non-attendance is without the consent of the governing body and the six month rule applies. However in such cases, please try and make contact with the person concerned
