What should be CAP’s central objectives be post 2013?
2.1. For land management to be sustainable we must aim to meet the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Given the numerous pressures on land and natural resources CAP should be driven by the need to end agricultural practice which damages the environment. Not only will this ensure that we retain the crucial environmental resources and services on which we depend, it will also mean that public money is not invested in detrimental practice. 2.2. In the medium to long term we believe that the CAP should funding should be focused on delivery of public and environmental benefits with payments rewarding sustainable land management. An approach centred on rewarding sustainable land management would focus on delivering positive actions to deliver Europe’s environmental objectives. This approach would better direct investment to deliver policy objectives and tackle future challenges. Agriculture will still produce food but
