What should a student do in the event of an emergency if Health Services is not open?
If it is a true emergency, a student should call 911 regardless if the clinic is open or not. A true emergency may be any of the following: an individual who has a loss of consciousness, is not breathing, does not have a heart rate, or is severely bleeding. Health Services is staffed by a Registered Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner during regular office hours. They do NOT have equipment available to provide emergency medical treatment; therefore, 911 must be activated in the case of an emergency. If the student becomes ill after clinic hours, the student may contact his or her RA who will then contact the Nurse Practitioner for further instructions. Passavant Area Hospital is within close proximity to the college and has a 24-hour Emergency Department and an Outpatient Clinic available during the day. Security (x3111) may also be contacted.
