What should a recipient expect immediately following transplantation?
The transplant team usually monitors the recipient for the first 12 to 24 hours on the transplant unit. During the next period of time, the transplant recipient regains strength and prepares for going home. If all goes well, the recipient is discharged from the hospital in four to seven days and can return to normal activities within four to six weeks.
