Veterinarians suggest inoculating your dog against distemper, hepatitis (adenovirus), parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Leptospira, Bordetella, and coronavirus vaccines are also available. In addition, most states require immunization against rabies. No shots are permanent. After the barrage of inoculations during puppyhood, Shadows shots must be boostered annually, although some states allow a three-year rabies vaccine. Even house pets who never go anywhere can catch airborne viruses and bugs clinging to your clothing or shoes. Conscientious owners want to protect their pets in every possible way. Prevention is easier, less expensive, and less agonizing than trying to cure one of these dread diseases. Dont forget, not only is your dog is your best friend, you are his best friend, and its up to you to protect him. Unless hes unusually talented, he cant drive himself to the vet for care!
