What shops are acceptable to buy an engagement ring from (womens advice needed!)?
Buy it from which ever shop you wish to, dear. There is no law prohibiting you from buying an engagement ring from any given shop, just as there are no laws that say an engagement ring has to be diamonds and platinum or that you have to spend a certain amount – spend as little or as much as you can afford. For instance, my engagement ring was a white gold set aquamarine and cost £199 from Frazer Hart. It was beautiful and meant the world to me, because it represented so much more than just a piece of jewellery.
Well, you don’t have to say it came from H. Samuels. Buy a nice box to put it in and no-one will ever know. At £1300 it’s a pretty reasonably expensive ring, so must be of some quality! Shop around though, you might be lucky enough to find a jewellery store with a end of January sale or something on where you could get even more diamond for your money. Personally I think wanting to get a house together and start a life together is a much bigger issue and more important than where the ring came from / how much it cost, and as Monica Gellar once said in Friends, “I don’t want a big fancy wedding, I want a marriage”. Best of luck!
