What services does the Wastewater Treatment Plant Provide?

We treat wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial users in our service area. The service area serves the City of Jackson, State Prison of Southern Michigan, parts of Blackman, Summit, Spring Arbor/SandStone, and Napoleon townships. Estimate of population served 80,000 people. The WWTP receives about 13.5 million gallon per day (MGD) or 15 – MGD max month. Presently the WWTP can handle about an average of 16 – MGD or 19 – MGD max month. With planned future expansion projects the WWTP capacity will increase. The industrial flow comprises about 2-MGD of the average daily flow. Plant personnel issue permits, monitor, and enforce pretreatment regulations required by local, state, and federal laws. Plant personnel also maintain 9 city owned sewage lift stations. In the process of making the dirty water clean we remove a lot of solids from the wastewater. The solids (sludge) are digested (microorganisms eat on the solids). The sludge is disposed of at either the Jackson County
