What services are there for Grades 1 & 2?
Children are identified for participation in the ELA Academic Intervention Services Program on the basis of data obtained from each student’s Early Literacy Profile, DIBELS and anecdotal assessments and teacher recommendations. With mathematics, grade level assessments and teacher bservations form the basis for placement in the program. Students are not formally placed in the program until the second half of their first grade year. However, services are provided to students on an informal basis during the first half of the first grade year. Just as academic benchmarks are used to help determine which students would benefit from services, so too are these standards used to help ascertain which students may be judged as no longer needing services. Thus, students once identified are not locked in the Academic Intervention Services Program, but instead may demonstrate their competency and exit the program.
