The 440 tag is always indexed. The 490 tag with a first indicator of “1” is traced according to what is in an 8XX tag. For instance, the 490 tag contains the series as it appears on the item. The 8XX tag may trace it under both the author and the series title. The 490 tag with an indicator of zero “0” indicates that the series heading which appears on the item is not traced. Some systems might index this tag anyway.
