The Mahayana Canon is different in different schools of Mahayana, but generally consists in hundreds of volumes of scriptures, among which are included the Tripitaka. Most of them were written down in Sanskrit in India but many of them are only surviving in Tibetan or Chinese translations (and often in both languages), some of them in other languages from East and Central Asia. The Mahayana Tripitaka (the Sanskrit name) and the Theravada Tipitaka (the Pali name) is a little different, though, because they stem from different early Buddhist schools. When the T(r)ipitaka was written down, around 400 years after the death of the Buddha, there were already different sects of Buddhism with somewhat different versions of the Sutras (the teachings of the Buddha), so it’s not possible to say which is the “original” version.
