What schedule should the intern follow? / How many hours should the intern serve?
Methods interns generally negotiate, within reason, their limited hours with the mentor teacher. Practicum interns generally follow a Monday through Thursday schedule, four hours per day, and begin at the start of the teacher’s contractual day. While the state requirement is 240 hours, Cleveland State’s requirements will give the interns significantly more “teaching time” in preparing them for student teaching. All interns follow the University calendar for fifteen weeks while in practicum. Student teaching interns follow the partner school’s schedule exactly and are required to be present at the school when their mentor is contractually required to be present for fifteen weeks. Student teaching has no minimum hours established by the state. The College has taken this approach to benefit the interns in preparation for their first year of teaching.
