What rules apply for school buses at railroad crossings?
The bus must come to a complete stop at all railroad crossings, regardless of whether there are any passengers and regardless of whether there is an automatic signal at the crossing. After stopping, the driver shall open the entrance door, look and listen for approaching trains, and shall not proceed across the tracks until it is safe to do so. Iowa Code §§ 321.341 and 321.343; 281 Iowa Administrative Code 43.20.
