What roles does chlorophyll play in photosynthesis?
Chlorophyll can be promoted to a higher energy state by the capture of sunlight. This captured energy can then be used to hydrolize carbonic acid (the union of water and carbon dioxide – which occurres spontaneously in water exposed to carbon dioxide). This is the first step in converting water and carbon dioxide into forming higher carbo-hydrates.
