What role should sustainable flood management play in mitigating the effects of flooding?
Sustainable flood management has an important role to play in mitigating the effects but it is important to note that it will not always provide a complete solution to managing the flood risk in a particular area. It is likely that sustainable flood management solutions/measures will need to be taken forward in parallel with hard engineering options. Funding to promote the use and trialing/demonstration of sustainable flood management techniques is essential to prove that they have a role and in turn convince the public and others that they are a viable option which does have a role to play in mitigating flood risk. This funding should be sourced from central government as grants to individuals (for example to purchase flood gates for use at individual properties), or at local authority (to facilitate the incorporation of sustainable flood management techniques within flood defence schemes they are developing for funding by the Scottish Government) or national level (for example fundin
