What role is the Nigerian Tourism Development Commission (NTDC) going to play in the 2008 Hajj operations?
We are going to register tour operators, otherwise known as travel agents, to ensure their authenticity and to help the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in dealing with them. We are aware that some of them are quite dubious and would simply disappear with monies of intending pilgrims, making a lifetime opportunity of some pilgrims a nightmare. So we are undertaking a collaborative role to ensure that this does not happen. Such has happened in the past and we do not want to have a repeat of such again. Has this always been the case or is it a new directive? The idea of registration is not new. It has been on but this time, it is going to be an intensive exercise. We are aware of the efforts of the National Hajj Commission to ensure successful Hajj operation in the country and we intend to assist by enhancing its activities during the 2008 pilgrimage to the holy land.
