What role does water play in erosion and deposition?
You have 4 types of erosion, wind, water, gravity and uv (sun) erosion. Water erosion is the most intense and controllable of all 4. When water passes over an unstable surface (i.e. soil), the velocity and weight of water works against the soil particles, breaking it apart and allowing them to become suspended in water. As water continues to move across a surface, the weight of water in conjunction with the loose soil particles beats down on the ground, releasing more and more sediment (or dirt) into the flowing water. The main issue we see today with this is that it’s eating away out land, something that we can never get back. Losing land to erosion is a huge problem because its irreplaceable. Surface land on earth is limited and once it’s gone you can never replace it. Have said that, you start to see certain areas become more cramped as it’s developable land becomes less and less. Federal, state, and local authorities have laws and regulations in place to help reduce the amount of f
