What role does rigorous research play in addressing educational issues?
We have such limited funding, we have to use it in the most effective way. And we just don’t have time to do the research on our own, to look up where all the best practices are. I love the Institute of Education Sciences Practice Guides, which I would never have known about apart from a REL webinar about dropout prevention with one of the coauthors of the Guide. You can cite the recommendations and you know it’s good, you know it’s tried and true. That’s what’s so wonderful about understanding what the REL has to offer. Q. You are currently leading a Governing Board initiative to increase awareness of REL-NEI throughout the Region. Can you please explain this project? My mission on this initiative is to talk to the New Hampshire superintendents. Some of them came to the high-school redesign program that REL-NEI helped sponsor last fall, and just about everybody from the state sent a representative to that. It was wonderful.
