What role does a foster/adoptive parent have in selecting a child for placement?
The placement decision is a joint one, with the family, agency and child all feeling comfortable with the placement. Lilliput social workers spend time getting to know your family and jointly determine what type of child will fit best with your family. After a family’s foster care certification and adoption home study are approved, the Lilliput social worker will identify a possible child or sibling group and will share information with you about the child’s background, characteristics, strengths and needs. If you are interested in pursuing placement, when possible, visits between the child and family will be arranged. During the course of the “pre-placement” visits, plans for the actual placement will occur.
