What role do readers’ letters play in the MICHELIN Guide ?
We receive 50,000 letters for the whole collection, plus an increasing number of e-mails, with an average of three comments per letter. We make a point of replying to all correspondence we receive. All the information is carefully noted and recorded, according to well-defined criteria. As a result, we are able to track the development of different establishments. We’re pleased to say that 85% of this correspondence is in line with our inspectors’ observations. Sometimes the letters alert us to recent developments in a particular establishment, which can involve further visits but, ultimately it’s the inspectors who decide on the selection and classification of the establishments.
