What role do private and faith-based organizations play?
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management calls on private agencies such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster network to fulfill critical missions. Many faith-based organizations participate in the network. Amateur radio groups can provides backup emergency communications. The Civil Air Patrol may assist in search and rescue missions.
