What role do genes play in causing blindness?
Genes are located in every cell of the body, except for red blood cells because they don’t have a nucleus. Genes contain instructions that tell cells what to do so some genes can specify traits like hair color. Other genes are involved in the development of body parts like the ear or in how parts of the body work. Each person inherits two copies of each gene, one from each parent. Sometimes genes will mutate and cause cells to act differently than expected which will most likely cause the formation of diseases like retinal degeneration.
