What role did religion have on the lives of the ancient Egyptians?
Ancient Egyptians thought that the purpose of their real lives is the preparation for the afterlife. Their life span was very short, thus, they considered a life after death to be the true life. They had very detailed religious rituals that described what they needed to take with them to afterlife, how to behave after death, and even afterlife daily responsibilities. The most important religious ritual of ancient Egyptians stated that after death each and everybody had to pass through special court system ruled by gods. If an ancient Egyptian passed the gods judgment, he would be allowed to pass through to enjoyable and fruitful afterlife. If not, he would be torn apart and his soul would be tortured forever without any chance to find peace.
