well its sad to say but it was the slave trade, and it went on for a long time, most slaves in the southern states were forced to work on plantations, or in homes of the wealthy as servants , although some slave owners treated their slaves very kindly and with respect most owners treated them horribly , they were treated like animals, many were housed to a single shack, they were only given enough food to live, and were forced to work through intense heat , as well as other factors such as disease, starvation, lack of sleep , and many other things. although the southern states weren’t the only ones with slaves , many northern states had them too, the only difference is that they had some rights, and were mostly treated well , this is something most people don’t know about american history, and most of those that do know tend to block it out of their minds., so people from the northern part of the united states cannot talk badly about , or say anything negative about the south having sl
