What risks are associated with cochlear implant surgery?
Specific risks should be discussed with the surgeon. In general, cochlear implant surgery is considered to have minimal risks. In most cases, the residual hearing in the operated ear(s) is lost. Many patients are dizzy for a few hours or days after surgery. Pain levels associated with the surgery are very individual—some patients require nothing more than a simple over-the-counter pain killer, some require prescription pain medication.
