With the level of cleaning and sweeping in the tourist hotels in those resorts, very little. But it’s always wise to wear at least flip-flops, in case of a (rare) scorpion. You would only be likely to come across a biting spider in a disused, uncleaned place. Snakes are more afraid of you than you are of them. If you “go bush”, wear proper shoes or trainers and scuff your feet if walking across something which one could hide in. Shoes will protect your feet from jiggers too. And take normal precautions if you put something down on the ground outside and leave it a while, in case something chooses to shelter under it. But again – that’s not likely to bother you if you’re just going as a tourist. I would expect biting insects to be more of a problem than anything you’ve mentioned, so take insect repellent lotion and use it generously from sundown onwards.
