What rights do smokers have?
Oh what a question, I’m a smoker and have always had consideration of non-smokers, I would never smoke in a non-smokers house, for example, when the ban came in I thought the sensible solution would be to leave up to pub/cafe/restaurant owners if they wanted their establishment to be smoking or non smoking giving people the option as customers and employees if they wished to be a patron of said establishment or work there, but oh no, lets ban it all. Since the ban, pubs, clubs, restaurants etc have closed. I frequently went to pubs but stopped and now stay at home, my choice and I stick by the rules. There is nothing worse that going down the street and all these people are outside smoking, they block the pavements, there is never enough bins for the cig ends and this in turn causes more upset to non smokers. My friend who is a police officer has also stated that more fights and arguments have erupted as people are out on the street having a ciggie (ok usually alcohol induced) but this
When you think about it, perhaps they do have a right to smoke a ‘legal’ substance if they wish to, just as long as we non-smokers don’t have to suffer the effects of passive smoking ourselves. I’ve seen both sides of the coin, and I quit 10 years ago before the ban even came in. But now, I think back and remember how inconsiderate I actually was, though 10 years ago I couldn’t see what everyone was fussing about. Only after I quit did I really see how smoking can effect others that wish not to You must remember though that smokers do pay a lot of tax…. their choice of course, and that does get paid into the health service to balance the effects of smoking related diseases. I am glad that we can now enjoy a smoke free meal and a pint though.
