What rights do non-union workers have at work?
Despite what most American’s believe, our government provides workers with very few workers rights. There are law’s governing discrimination, minimum wage, child labor and a few state laws dealing with hours that you may work. Other than these very limited laws everything else falls under the “employment at will” doctrine, an archaic anti-labor law from the last half of the 1800’s, that gives employers the right to fire workers at any time, for any reason or in fact “no reason” at all. Think that you have freedom of speech in this country? Not once you report for work you don’t! Workers not protected by a labor contract do not have the right to disagree with their employer on any issue without threat of being fired. That is a fact! Think you have the right to do as you please outside of work without fear of on the job reprisals? Nope!
