What responsibility does a state have with regard to its eligible entity?
A state may designate any eligible entity it considers appropriate. In granting states this authority, NTIA recognizes the importance of the state’s role in improving broadband data. NTIA believes that, given the unique relationship between states and broadband service providers, substantial state involvement and oversight will increase the likelihood of success. Therefore, NTIA believes that states should continue to play an active role in any project funded by grants under this program. Lastly, NTIA believes that state agencies and instrumentalities are best suited to oversee data verification and most capable of ensuring independence and impartiality. In Washington, the Department of Information Services (DIS) is the designed eligible entity, per House Bill 1701.
