Under the ICMHA, every school district in the State must adopt and submit to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) a “policy for incorporating social and emotional development into [its] educational program.” Such policies must (a) address teaching social and emotional skills and assessing children’s progress in acquiring these skills and (b) include protocols for responding to children with social, emotional, or mental health problems. All 879 Illinois school districts have already submitted such policies to ISBE ( model policies at http://spr14.isbespr1.isbe.net:8765/query.html?col=isbe&qt=Children%27s+Mental+Health+Act&charset=iso-8859-1&pw=80%25).
